Working with dust, mould, or medical/environmental emergencies. Only protects against particles, not gases or vapours. Can help protect healthcare workers from germs by blocking out at least 95% of small airborne particles — when worn correctly.
KN95 (GB2626-2006)
- Aluminium nose-piece allows forming of tight seal preventing ventilation leakage
- Elastic earloops allowing quick and easy application/removal
- Durable polypropylene provides confidence against leaks and mechanical tears
- Designed to be disposable avoiding contamination due to particulate build-up
- Soft material prevents excessive marking of the skin
- Flexibility allows easy integration with any additional head and facial protection
- Glass-fibre free
- Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) of >= 95%

Filtering facepiece respirators (FFR), which are also called disposable respirators, are subject to various regulatory standards around the world (see examples below). Certain required physical properties and performance characteristics are specified in order for respirators to claim compliance with the particular standard. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the use of N95/ KN95/ FFP2 respirators for use in high-risk situations, especially by medical personnel during pandemics. They are not exactly the same, but respirators certified as meeting these standards can be expected to function very similar to one another. – N95 (NIOSH-42CFR84) – KN95 (GB2626-2006) – FFP2 (EN 149-2001) 3M released a Technical Bulletin on January 2020 regarding ‘Comparison of FFP2, KN95, and N95 and Other Filtering Facepiece Respirator Classes’. Based on this comparison, it is reasonable to consider China’s KN95, as “equivalent” to US NIOSH N95 and European FFP2 respirators, for filtering non-oil-based particles such as those resulting from wildfires, PM 2.5 air pollution, volcanic eruptions, or bioaerosols (e.g. viruses). |
